Spring 2015 Online Workshops


CREATING DYNAMIC CHARACTERS

Dates: February 16-20

Format: Yahoo group, lessons are emailed to group members daily. Homework is required.  Read the lessons and do the coursework around your own schedule.

Description: Learn how to truly understand your characters, how to deliver the details that will help readers connect to your characters, and how to use each character's individual goals to generate conflict within your story.

QUERY WRITING 101 

**Due to the time-intensive critiques I offer, space is limited in this workshop.

Dates: March 2 - 6

Format: Yahoo group, lessons are emailed to the group members once a day for the first five days. Homework is required. The rest of the days are for you to draft your query & for me to critique it. You do your coursework around your own schedule.

Description: Learn how to write an amazing query letter! Course focuses on basic query structure, do's and don'ts, how to target the right agent for you, and how to identify your basic plot and conflict to use in writing a stellar hook. Also includes one in-depth personalized critique of your query letter.

EFFECTIVE WORLD BUILDING

Dates: March 16-20

Format: Yahoo group, lessons are emailed to the group members once a day. Homework is required. Read the lessons and do the coursework around your own schedule.

Description: Learn how to create vivid, interesting worlds that are fully developed. Workshop addresses culture/customs/holidays, topography, history, ethnic heritage, and government/rules/laws.

HOW TO PURSUE PUBLICATION: A Guide for New Writers

Dates: March 23-27

Format: Yahoo group, a guide to pursuing traditional publication will be emailed to group members and then I will answer specific questions for the rest of the week. This is your chance to ask everything you ever wanted to know about the publishing process, how to find an agent, how to work with an agent, what it takes to sell a book, and how to bring a book from first draft to a finished copy on the shelves. No homework required.

HOW TO WRITE A KILLER SYNOPSIS

When: April 6-10

Format: Yahoo group, lessons are emailed to group members once a day. Light homework is required. Read the lessons and do the homework around your own schedule.

Description: Learn how to write a killer synopsis in four days! Topics covered include:

*What a Synopsis is and what it is not
*When to write a synopsis
*Correct formatting
*How long a synopsis should be
*How to identify the Voice of your manuscript & use it in your synopsis
*Which plot elements need to be included
*How to break your plot up into three key areas
*How to identify plot arcs and emotional landmarks
*How to pace your synopsis

WRITER'S BOOT CAMP

Dates: April 20 - May 1

Format: Yahoo group, lessons are emailed to group members daily. Daily word count homework is required. Additional homework will be required with some lessons. Read the lessons and do the coursework around your own schedule.

Description: Struggling with plot, structure, pacing, and getting past the beginning of your novel? Tired of taking a year to come up with a first draft? This is the workshop for you. Come prepared to learn the basics of your craft, and to utilize C.J.'s sprint method to write a rough draft in 7 weeks. This an intense workshop designed to thoroughly cover all the basics of writing a novel. Topics covered include:

WORKSHOP FEE CANCELLATION POLICY:



Any request to cancel workshop attendance and receive a refund of the workshop fee must be submitted to assistant@cjredwine.com no later than 3 weeks to the day before the start of the workshop. No refunds will be issued after that date. If you fail to participate in the workshop for which you registered, you will not be allowed to take the workshop at a further date without registering for the workshop again.

  1. How about one on writing blurbs for the back of the book...? I can so use help with that. Mine always are just a short synopsis - absolutely not intriguing at all.

  2. I feel like people who don't have the experience for a career should go to a workshop and do the things there. It would be a way they could get experience and learn some tips. My friend is trying to get a manager job but, he doesn't have the schooling. http://nyc.purposefuel.org
