C.J. Redwine writes speculative fiction and is represented by Holly Root of Waxman Leavall Literary Agency. Her DEFIANCE trilogy is available from Balzer + Bray. C.J. has an English degree and a teaching credential from Pepperdine University. She's spent the last five years teaching workshops on all areas of writing. C.J. regularly offers workshops online and can also be booked for teen workshops at schools and libraries, as well as adult workshops at conferences, writing chapters, and book festivals.

Query Writing 101: How to write a query or book blurb that will captivate agents, editors, and readers. Includes formatting, checklists, how to research agents, and a 3 part query/book blurb writing formula. Appropriate for writers who have a completed (or nearly completed) manuscript and are seeking publication, either traditional or indie.


How to Write a Killer Synopsis: How to write an engaging synopsis to use in submitting proposals to agents and editors. Includes formatting and a simple method to use in deciding what parts of your book go into the synopsis and what stays out. Appropriate for writers who have a completed (or nearly completed) manuscript.


Developing Authentic Characters: Learn how to truly understand your characters, how to deliver the details that will help readers connect to your characters, and how to use each character's individual goals to generate conflict within your story. Appropriate for upper elementary through adult.


Building a Fictional World:  Learn how to build a fictional world that will feel as real to your reader as the world outside their front door. Appropriate for upper elementary through adult.


The Publishing Process:  A look at the publishing process from the inception of an idea to a finished book on the shelf. Appropriate for upper elementary, middle school, and high school.


DEFIANCE Book Talk: A discussion of my journey from a middle school student who filled spiral notebooks with stories to a published author. Includes the years of rejections I received, even after signing with a literary agent, and a look at the publishing process for DEFIANCE. Appropriate for upper elementary, middle school, and high school.

Speaker fee: $150/hour
Skype fee: $50 per 30 minutes
